2024 was a year of transformations, losses, and new beginnings.

Home seemed to have been at the center of everything: a home was explored through art, a home was lost, and a home was built.

The year had many highlights, but I learned to also value the moments in between. I’m grateful to those who shared their light during my darkest and brightest moments, allowing me space to feel.

This year allowed me to witness the blooming of the many seeds I had carefully nurtured over the years. May 2025 be a year to continue learning, planting, and growing ✨

✉️ Lessons to carry into the next year: pursue what you love, read widely, embrace vulnerability, accept help, allow time for healing, practice self-compassion, express your feelings, take up space, let go of others’ opinions, don’t take yourself too seriously, and turn what ifs into action. I had the great honour of collaborating with a group of brilliant filmmakers students at @gbcollege @designgbc to do a short documentary about my latest project, ‘The Home I Never Knew.’

A quick story about the painting scene: When I was asked to paint live for the documentary, I quickly said yes but then got nervous as I’ve never painted in front of a crowd.

Once I started, the room fell utterly silent, and I felt like I was in a different dimension—surreal yet familiar. For the first time in a while, my mind was completely present. I was immersed in painting.

The result was the happiest-looking painting I’ve ever created, reflecting exactly how I felt then.

Thank you for your kindness through the process and for letting me be part of your film. Your talent and creativity are truly inspiring.

I had the great honour of collaborating with a group of brilliant filmmakers students at @gbcollege @designgbc to do a short documentary about my latest project, ‘The Home I Never Knew.’

A quick story about the painting scene: When I was asked to paint live for the documentary, I quickly said yes but then got nervous as I’ve never painted in front of a crowd.

I worked on this video last year to celebrate the 20th anniversary of @wicked_musical. With tiny modifications, I’m so happy to share it now that the movie @wickedmovie has come out!

Wicked entered my life at 14, opening up the world of theatre and introducing me to themes like self-acceptance, drifting friendships, and standing up for myself. I never expected this experience to change me For Good ;)

It’s heartwarming to see how this story has resonated with so many.

I look back on all the memories tied to it with gratitude and genuinely believe I wouldn’t be the person I am today without theatre and the community we built together through this and many other stories 💚

TWO WEEKS to @nuitblancheto🌕

“The Home I Never Knew” is an art installation that involves a series of phases, and I have enjoyed each one so much!

From brainstorming ideas on the best way to visually represent this concept, to researching the landscapes of Venezuela, talking with my dad about what he saw/felt in his travels to La Gran Sabana and Mérida, stretching canvas, painting, learning a new software, having aha! moments, planning, and testing!

I’ve been documenting and collecting the little moments that have formed this journey so far. Here’s a selection that represents most of the stages to bridge the gap between those places where I have never been in Venezuela and my new home in Toronto 🇻🇪 🇨🇦

I couldn’t have wished for a more perfect location to show this work than “The Orchid” (yes! the terrace’s name is the national flower of Venezuela! 🤯) at @designgbc

This project would not be possible without the help of an amazing team and George Brown College. I’m grateful for having support at every stage!

For years, I was encouraged to incorporate Venezuela into my artwork, but it never felt right to me. After spending ten years in Canada, I finally feel ready to tell a story about Venezuela on my canvas 🇻🇪

I left without having the opportunity to visit so many amazingly beautiful places, such as Los Roques and La Gran Sabana. Travelling in Venezuela can be very dangerous, and some areas are so remote that even if it were safe, it would still be challenging to visit.

This new series of paintings explores the places in Venezuela that I haven’t seen yet but hope to visit in the future. The paintings capture the essence and emotions that these places evoke in me. They are inspired by several reference pictures, research and stories my dad shared about his travels in the early 1980s.

Stay tuned, as this is just the beginning! 😉

Las pinturas capturan la esencia y las emociones que estos lugares evocan en mí y están basadas en muchas fotos de referencia, investigaciones y en historias que mi papá me contó sobre sus viajes a estos sitios a principios de los años ochenta.

In honor of the 138th anniversary of the death of Emily Dickinson this Saturday, I wanted to share a video I made of one of my absolutely favourite poems by Emily.

Some thoughts about the poem: Finding beauty in the ordinary is what makes moments last forever. Forever is made of fleeting moments. Emily Dickinson’s poem is centred on our own perception of time and human experience. The poem demystifies the abstract condition of the future and shows that nows are lived
daily without time stopping. Forever does not have time. It is only experienced differently by each person.

I hope some day I have the chance to visit Emily’s home at @emilydickinson.museum 🖤

Total Eclipse 2024 🌘 For a shadow lover like me, this was an incredible day! The view from under the biggest shadow left me speechless. Seeing everything around become dark as night while the horizon stayed bright in the middle of the day was the most incredible thing I’ve seen! I couldn’t see the corona during the totality because of the clouds, but experiencing the darkness in the middle of the day was beyond my imagination. It's definitely something I’ll never forget!

It’s the beginning of 2024, and I wanted to share this project with you.

ON THE RISE is a magazine for emerging artists struggling to find real answers in the industry and genuine connections. Emerging artists make it for emerging artists!

This would be the first issue, which includes exciting art-related articles and features four emerging artists as its main article.

It was a real challenge at the beginning (the first draft looks VERY different from this last version!). Still, once I let go of some control, it became a much more enjoyable experience and one of my favourite projects!

A big plus was that I could create two paintings for the last spreads!

I am a Canadian citizen! 🇨🇦

I wish I could go back in time to when I almost gave up, so I could tell myself that everything would work out in the end. In a way, I think I did because I kept pushing and trying until the end. Still, I wish I hadn’t cried and suffered so much!

After almost a decade (in just two weeks!), I finally did it!

Venezuela, you are as present as ever in my thoughts today. I think of you through my memories of everything I lived in your lands with a passion that is hard to contain in my heart. You are the place that saw me grow and the place I want to go back to someday. You are a big part of me, always.

Canada, my new home. Thank you for opening your arms wider than I had ever wished for and for offering me so many exciting opportunities day after day, for allowing me to dream big and dare to dream even bigger. It was a challenge to finally be called Canadian, but if there is a lesson after everything, it is this one: nothing is impossible.
